About the UNA International Choir
The United Nations Association International Choir (UNAIC) seeks to provide residents of the greater Houston area with an opportunity to participate in musical activities within a supportive and culturally diverse environment.
Through rehearsing and performing a vast spectrum of music in original languages from all genres around the world, the choir strives for the highest goals of artistic achievement, while promoting mutual understanding and respect among all peoples of the world.
The choir motto is, “Singing with people and in languages from around the world in the universal language of music.”
The choir is comprised of singers from a variety of cultural, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds who live and work in the greater Houston area. At the present time, the choir has more than 80 members, representing 25 nations, who speak 15 different languages, with their ages ranging from 16 years old to eighty years young.
The United Nations Association International Choir was inaugurated in Houston, Texas, in September 1999 by the founding music director, Michele Lhopiteau. The Choir gives numerous concerts in a variety of venues every year and offers its audiences a distinctive repertoire available nowhere else in the area. The fact all songs are sung in their original languages is what sets UNAIC apart from any choir in the Houston area.
