Ms. Pierre became an activist at the age of 13 when she was arrested for being the spokesperson of a group of Haitian sugar-cane cutters in her migrant labor village who were protesting for better wages and living conditions. She was awarded the The 2010 U.S. State Department International Woman of Courage and was the recipient of the 2006 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award as a result of her tireless work advocating for the rights of Haitians living in the Dominican Republic. Ms. Pierre is in Houston to give the keynote address for When and Where I Enter, Inc. ("WWIE"), a non-profit organization empowering Afro-Latina and Afro-Caribbean women and girls to improve the quality of their lives and to become self-sufficient, contributing members of the community through meaningful socio-economic participation.

Dine
Around the World held April 9, 2010
was a great success. All proceeds will benefit Global Classrooms, an educational program for inner-city schools that combines the experience of Model United Nations simulations with a curriculum that can be integrated into a high-school or middle-school social studies classroom. The goal is to combine an understanding of global issues with developing life skills such as research, writing, problem solving, public speaking, and collaboration.
We would like to thank everyone that
participated in the promotion!
